DMA Continues to Support Vets, Pets, and Kids

Washington, D.C. — July 2020

Two years ago DMA created its “Vets, Pets, and Kids” initiative.  We wanted to make an impact in areas that were important and resonated with the DMA team.  After much thought, we opted to focus of our philanthropic efforts for the past 24 months on Veterans, pets, and children.  The efforts of our employees have been successful in all three areas.
DMA members have provided transport for over 400 animals that were scheduled to be euthanized in kill shelters.  Spearheaded by DMA CEO Joseph Bond, DMA employees have driven all over Southwestern and Southeastern Virginia and the northern tier of North Carolina to transport these dogs, and a few cats, to no-kill shelters or foster homes.
Employees volunteer at veteran programs, most notably at last year’s Boots to Suits program at the James River Country Club where a DMA employee assisted in providing free head shots for transitioning veterans.
Lastly, during this time of economic uncertainty and after much thought on what we could do to make the most impact in children’s lives, we donated $10,000.00 to the Southeastern Virginia Food Bank’s Backpack Program.  This nationally recognized program provides bags filled with nutritious, kid-friendly, and non-perishable food that children take home on weekends.  The bags are distributed among 53 elementary schools in Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.  The Food Bank, through its partnerships, is able to obtain $60.00 worth of groceries for every $10.00 donated.  Please join us in ensuring kids in food insecure situations have enough to eat.
